Rick Shea is currently serving as Vice President of the San Diego County Board of Education. His work on behalf of children spans over 30 years in San Diego County. He focused his educational career on helping students succeed, especially those most at-risk. This service began as a tutor for elementary students, and a Teacher Assistant at a continuation high school. He also served the Juvenile Court as a San Diego County Probation Officer. He earned his teaching credential, and taught at-risk youth with the Juvenile Court and Community Schools. He earned five California credentials: K-12 teaching, K-12 Administrative services, K-12 PPS (counselor or school psychologist) and Community College teaching and counseling credentials. After completion of his Administrative Credential, Rick became an administrator with the Outdoor Science Schools and helped develop hands-on science programs for students and teachers. He served as Administrative Services Officer and Special Assistant to the County Superintendent. His experience in community and public service also includes serving as President of the Leucadia/Encinitas Town Council, President of the Encinitas Fire Protection District, working on the successful incorporation committee, and serving as Encinitas Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Council member.
